Pelagia Zdziebkowska

Członkowie klubu organizowali wysyłkę paczek z żywnością i lekarstwami do obozów koncentracyjnych, ratowali polskie książki, kolportowali i czytali prasę podziemną.

Pelagia Zdziebkowska She was born on 15 December 1903 in Poznań, where she finished primary school and commerce secondary school. After four years, Mr and Mrs Zdziebkowski moved to Upper Silesia and settled in Wirek. After the move, Pelagia got involved in the womens’ movement – at the beginning she was a chair of the local club, then a member of superior organs. She was a delegate of parental boards of secondary and primary school in Wirek. After the outbreak of World War II, the son of Mr and Mrs Zdziebkowski, Jerzy, founded the Philomath Club with his friends, the meetings of which took place in their flat. The members of the club sent food and medicine to concentration camps, saved Polish books, distributed and read underground press. It was during the distribution of the press that they were caught. Despite her husband and son taking the blame and despite being acquitted, Pelagia was transported to the concentration camp in Oświęcim, where she died of exhaustion on 22 March 1944.

März 1944 an Erschöpfung starb.
