Osada Bykowina została przyłączona do Nowego Bytomia w 1951 roku, a już w 1959 r. wraz z Nowym Bytomiem została włączona do Rudy Śląskiej i stała się jedną z jej dzielnic. W latach 1950-1974 nastąpiła dynamiczna rozbudowa dzielnicy. W latach 50. zabudowano rejony ulic Zgody i Plebiscytowej, oraz dwa hotele robotnicze. Na kolejną dekadę przypadła budowa bloków przy ulicy Potyki oraz wokół wspomnianych hoteli. W latach 70. powstało nowe osiedle przy ul. Pordzika. Obraz dzielnicy zmienił także ukończony w 1974 r. dziesięciopiętrowy blok mieszkalny przy ul. Plebiscytowej, potocznie zwany Żyletą. W miejscu, w którym się znajdujemy funkcjonował odkryty basen kąpielowy stanowiący uzupełnienie zabudowy mieszkaniowej. Został on oddany do użytku w 1962 roku. Był otoczony terenem rekreacyjnym bardzo chętnie odwiedzanym przez mieszkańców i wykorzystywanym także do organizacji festynów osiedlowych. Na początku lat 90. basen został zlikwidowany, a teren rekreacyjny odstraszał mieszkańców swoim wyglądem. Dzięki przeprowadzonej w ostatnich latach rewitalizacji, budowie siłowni pod chmurką oraz placu zabaw miejsce to na nowo tętni życiem.

The settlement of Bykowina was incorporated into Nowy Bytom in 1951, and already in 1959, together with Nowy Bytom, it was incorporated into Ruda Śląska and became one of its districts. In the years 1950-1974 the district expanded dynamically. In the 1950s, the streets ul. Zgody and ul. Plebiscytowa were developed, and two workers’ hotels were built. The following decade saw the construction of blocks of flats in ul. Potyki and around the two hotels. In the 1970s a new housing estate in ul. Pordzika was built. Another building which changed the district was the so-called Żyleta, a ten-storey block of flats built in ul. Plebiscytowa in 1974. The place where we are standing is the former open swimming pool, a complement of the housing estate. It was in 1962. The recreational area which surrounded it was eagerly visited by the inhabitants of the district and also used for organising neighbourhood fairs. In the early 1990s the swimming pool was closed down, and the former recreational area became a deterring place. Thanks to the recently undertaken regeneration, an open-air gym and a playground were constructed, turning the former pool back into a life-throbbing place.

Die Siedlung Bykowina wurde 1951 der Stadt Nowy Bytom angeschlossen und bereits im Jahr 1959 zusammen mit Nowy Bytom als ein Bezirk in die Stadt Ruda Śląska aufgenommen. In den Jahren 1950-1974 expandierte der Bezirk sehr dynamish. In den 50er-Jahren bebaute man die Bereiche an der Zgody-Straße und der Plebiscytowa-Straße und man baute zwei Arbeiterhotels. In der nächsten Dekade wurden die Wohnblöcken an der Potyki-Straße um den erwähnten Arbeiterhotels gebaut. In den 70er-Jahren entstand ein neuer Bezirk an der Pordzika-Straße. Das Aussehen des Bezirks änderte auch im Jahr 1974, als ein zehnstöckiger Wohnblock, umgangssprachlich „Żyleta“ (Klinge) genannt, fertig gestellt wurde. An der Stelle, wo wir gerade sind, befand sich ein Freibad, das das Wohngebiet ergänzte. Es wurde 1962 eröffnet. Ein sehr stark frequentiertes Erholungsgebiet, das auch zur Organisation von Bezirkfesten verwendet wurde, umgab es. In den frühen 90er-Jahren wurde das Freibad geschlossen und das Erholungsgebiet schreckte die Bewohner durch sein Aussehen ab. Dank in den letzten Jahren durchgeführter Revitalisierungarbeiten, dem Bau des Fitnesscenters „Unter den Wolken“ und eines Spielplatzes ist dieser wieder Ort voller Leben.
